• BREITENBACH, ZACH (Class of 1997) - completed 4 years of wrestling at NC State, wrestling at 197 pounds. ACC Champion, 3 time Academic All-American, team captain, ranked as high as #7 in the country. Senior in computer science with 4.0 GPA; recently awarded postgraduate scholarship by the ACC for academic/athletic achievement.

• BRISTOL, MICHAEL (Class of 19??) - I was a co-captain of the 1977 team under John Sanderson. The other co-captains were Barry Armstrong and Charles Burns. As you probably know, we won the state tournament that year. I believe 9 of us made it to the states, 7 of us past the first round. By the second round, we had accumulated enough points to win the tournament. Barry won, I came in 3rd, and I can't remember what Charles did. I think that we won the tournament with more points than any team in the history of the tournament. I think that I was 26-1 that year. After that, I went to West Point - played football for Army and wrestled in intramural (won school title). I'm currently living in Northern Virginia and have been since 1986. • CHAMBERS, STAN (Class of 1988) - 1987 All-State (4th in NC); 1990 NJCAA Regional Champion; since 1992 Chambers has volunteered at several East Cary and Cary High positions including head football and wrestling at East Cary Middle in the early to mid 90's, and assistant coach at Cary High. In 1996, he became head of the Cary Wrestling Club, and in 1999 was named State Chairman for NC AAU Wrestling. Chambers was honored by Wrestling USA as the 2001 National Club Coach of the Year.
   
• COLLINS, JOHN (Class of 1994) - graduated from NC State in 1998, married Jennifer Brady in 2000. Now teaching science at Enloe High, and is also the assistant wrestling coach.
   
• COLLINS, PAUL (Class of 1991) - graduated from Pembroke State in 1995-BS Management. Founded Valley Mortgage in 1998 - NC Mortgage Broker. Expanded operations from Jacksonville to Winston-Salem - 5 offices statewide. Married Trina Howard in October '96. Morgan Taylor Collins was born in October '99 (Daddy's Girl). Founded First American Home Sales and opening office in Zebulon July 2001. The first sales lot is on Hwy 39 at the Hwy 64 intersection. Will be moving to the Zebulon area in July with the office. • EARLY, DONALD (Class of 1986) - I have an Associate Degree of Architecture Technology from Wake Tech. I'm currently working for the N.C. Dept. of Transportation as Transportation Engineer. As a senior at Cary, I was Cap-9 all conference and a member of that special undefeated team in 85-86 that won the Orange Invitational, the WRAL, the Cary News Invitational, the Cap-9 Conf. Tournament, the last Sectional tournament and the first Regional tournament under Coach Winterton. And even though we never got to show the state how we could dance at the State Tournament, we showed the members of the classes of 1987,1988, and 1989 what it took to get to the "Big Show". • ESTERLY, CHIP (Class of 1984) - attended Appalachian State University where I graduated with a degree in Finance and a minor in Computer Science. From there I attended Duke University and earned my Masters Degree. Tracy and I have been married for 10 years and have two boys (Derek - 3, and Andrew 20 months), hopefully both will be future wrestlers. I hope they enjoy the sport as much as I did. • KLEIN, JOSH (J.J.) (Class of 1992) - honored in 1992 by the Raleigh Sport Club as "Wrestler of the Year", and a state champ in 1992 at 160 lbs. Josh wrestled one year at Appalachian State, and is now deceased. There is a commemorative trophy case in his honor at the Cary High School gym.
   
• KNOTT, MICHAEL (Class of 1983) - 4th in the state '82, 2nd in '83. Graduated from NCSU
  with BS in Zoology, attended the Physician Assistant program in West Virginia then completed a Masters at

• LEWIS, BRIAN (Class of 1989) - moved to Michigan soon after graduation to work at a family member's dairy farm. He spent about 7 years there before spending a summer on a wheat harvesting crew that traveled from Texas to Montana during the spring, summer, and fall. He returned to Cary in Nov 1996 and currently lives near Fuquay. He got his contractor's license and works with Econo-Built, Inc. In July he's to marry Amy Boykin of Wendell and they will then live near Wendell.
   
• LEWIS, DAVID (Class of 1983) - Now a materials planner for Wyeth Vaccines in Sanford, a nice little drive from my abode in North Raleigh. So far as
  spectator sports go, I've switched to baseball, but you'll normally find me
  calling the rounds every year at the Cary holiday wrestling tournament.

• LEWIS, MIKE (Class of 1996) - Lieutenant in the US Air Force, and in pilot training at Laughlin AFB, Del Rio, Texas. 2000 graduate of the USAF Academy in Colorado Springs, with an honors degree in Operations Research. Will get his "wings" Sept 28, 2001, in Del Rio, and the following weekend (Oct 7), will marry Jennifer Stehwein, a classmate and 2000 graduate of the USAFA. They will be living in Texas.

• MARREN, MATT (Class of 1984) - Co-captain 1984, had to deal with incoming pudding boys Bruce King and Phil Gray. Placed 3rd in the State aftergetting my ass kicked in the semis. Was pissed off for years. Anyway, went to East Carolina, graduated with degree in Physical Therapy, practiced rehab for 12 years, primarily in orthopaedics. As for wrestling, I hated the plastics and the sprints, but I loved the feeling of an opponent getting tired. I think of that feeling a lot. Now Director of Bus. Dev. for healthcare technology company. Live in Raleigh, married to a great lady (Michelea saint), have very cool son (Riley James Marren DOB 06/06/02). Have run triathlons, got fat, run some more. Cary Wrestling Greatest Memories: Helping win a state title in 1993, sitting beside Coach Winterton at the 1994 NCAA Championships In Chapel Hill and watching Pat Smith from Oklahoma be the first to win 4 NCAA Titles, and 2004 Watching Coach Winterton get inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

• SMITH, GREG (Class of 1981) - Chief Warrant Officer in the United States Marine Corps (has been in the Marines since 1981). Has been married for 16 years, with two daughters, Brittani (14) and Caitlin (13). "I would love to be an Assistant Wrestling Coach when I retire from the Corps, although I now weigh 192 lbs and would not want to have to suck weight to get back to 138. It is good to see that Cary still maintains their proud tradition in wrestling. I congratulate all those who followed those of my era (those like Clint Reese, Bob Wagner, Larry Dugger, Jeff Farwell, and Jeff McCraken) and am proud to see how far many of you have gone. It appears Cary still has the strongest wrestling program in North Carolina. Wrestling is still the best sport around."
